Curriculum

English Management Training (EMT)

Course Objectives

Increasingly there is a demand for international capabilities in business and yet the time required to obtain these skills is limited for those who are under the constant demands of their current jobs. Non-native speakers of English feel this conflict more acutely than others.

EMT is designed for those people, who have TOEIC of about 700 -- they have good business experience and understand English reasonably well, but are challenged to participant in meetings, present persuasively, and are unfamiliar with to the debate-oriented and logic-focused practices of international organizations. Designed in three 6-hour sessions, EMT focuses on ramping up a non-native speaker’s ability to communicate confidently and with persuasive force in a business setting.

EMT is an introductory business course in English, not a business English course. The initial content consists of understanding the cultural differences that inhibit communication, and how to build basic, structured arguments. Methodologies are then introduced for developing more complex arguments, and how to employ segmentation to understand issues and data in a systematic way. The course concludes with a complete business case involving group work, and the development of formal presentations advocating a solution.

Upon completion of the course, participants should have a stronger understanding the skills they possess, how to alleviate their weaknesses and how to further build upon their strengths. Participants will also have an understanding of the basics of problem solving and communication methods that will they will be able to apply in their daily work immediately.
