Global Career Seminar: GE (General Electric) (GLOBIS MBA students only)

GE

GLOBIS was proud to host a Global Career Seminar featuring (General Electric) entitled “GE, a company that prizes MBA holders.” The seminar began with a description of GE’s current activities and strategies around the world, presented by Ms. Ritsuko Nonomiya, Senior Vice President of GE Capital Asia Pacific and Mr. Tsuyoshi Ijichi President & CEO at GE Nissen (a JV at GE Capital). Ms. Nonomiya and Mr. Ijichi provided insightful knowledge into the current situation in GE, including its focus on growth values as the company made the transition from CEO Jack Welch to new CEO Jeffrey Immelt. Ms. Manami Higuchi from GE Human Resources then explained how GE is adopting hiring and training strategies to help GE meet its globalization goals. GE’s leadership training and HR programs help this global company adapt to the rapid changes of today, even as it remains one of the oldest companies in the world, founded in 1890 by Thomas Edison.

The seminar then proceeded to a panel of three GE employees who utilize their MBA skills in their work. One of these graduates was Mr. Hirotaka Ito, Ph.D., a GLOBIS graduate and recipient of this year's GLOBIS alumni award and GE’s Asia/Pacific Award. Another panelist was Mr. Yasuhiro Osako, from GE Healthcare, a graduate of the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College and currently engaged in GE’s Human Resources Leadership Program, which trains talented MBA graduates and accelerates their career in GE. Finally, Ms. Yukiko Higashi, a graduate of London Business School, reflected on how her MBA helped her succeed at GE in the real estate sector.

The audience enjoyed this very successful evening, conversing with the presenters after the seminar. GLOBIS and GE are continuing to look for opportunities to participate together in events in the future.
