The Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) offers scholarship for self-financed students who are expected to hold a student visa.
The Official name of the scholarship is MEXT Honors Scholarship for Privately Financed International Students. Visit Site
The MEXT Scholarship is funded by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan. This scholarship is available only for non-Japanese applicants who pass the screening process in the November application round. This scholarship is extremely competitive, and only a limited number of applicants are selected.
MEXT Scholars (Embassy recommended) may be eligible to apply for an extension of their scholarship to cover enrollment in a higher degree program. Before applying, the scholar’s current university conducts a screening process to confirm that applicants meet all eligibility criteria and qualify for a recommendation for the scholarship extension. Depending on the type of scholarship, some MEXT Scholars may also have the option to apply for an extension that allows them to pursue their degree at a university different from the one they currently attend.
From November to December, those intending to apply for a higher degree program, such as the Full-time MBA at GLOBIS University, should consider applying for the MEXT scholarship extension. This extension application is offered only once a year, so it’s advisable to apply even if you’re unsure about your plans. Possible scholarship extension patterns:
MEXT Scholars at other universities are encouraged to contact the office responsible for MEXT Scholars at their current institution to assess their eligibility for a scholarship extension and understand the necessary procedures.
Additionally, scholars from other universities should email GLOBIS University at mba-admission@globis.ac.jp where we will gladly guide you through the next steps such as opening an account on the Online Admission Portal.
Furthermore, please request that the office responsible for MEXT Scholarships at your current university contact the GLOBIS University at the provided email address when you apply for the scholarship extension. It is also important that they notify us of your formal extension results through the same email once MEXT announces them.
When seeking an embassy recommendation, the application process for your MEXT scholarship must begin before you apply to GLOBIS University. Please contact your local Japanese Embassy for more information. The benefits you receive are the same as the MEXT Scholarship (University Recommendation).
