This CMP Special Course aims to offer students a chance to understand how technology plays a key role in social change and innovation in emerging markets such as India through the involvement of public services. Students will learn how to develop strategic planning skills and put these skills into practice in a business setting in order to solve social problems in emerging markets.
NEC Corporation is a leading Japanese multinational information technology and electronics company, headquartered in Tokyo, Japan. It provides IT and network solutions to business enterprises, communications services providers and to government agencies. NEC aims to help solve a wide range of challenging issues and to create new social value for the changing world.
CSC e-Governance Service India Limited is a Special Purpose Vehicle (CSC SPV) incorporated under the Companies Act, 1956 by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology Government of India, to monitor the implementation of the Common Services Centers scheme (CSCs**).
In this course, students will learn about NEC’s journey in India via the case study, highlighted with feedback and insights from actual NEC executives. Also, by overseeing the development, challenges and opportunities of the case, students then build on this knowledge, in groups, come up with their own recommendation plans to help NEC to leverage its technology’s strengths to the social development in India.
* Common Services Centers (CSCs) are a strategic cornerstone of the Digital India Programme. CSCs are the access points for delivery of essential public utility services, social welfare benefits, healthcare, financial, education and agriculture services, to citizens in rural and remote areas, thereby contributing to a digitally and financially inclusive society. It is also known as “Internet Café” in India.
