Technovate Thinking

Course Objectives

In an era of rapid technological evolution, inconceivably massive volumes of data and complex networks without geographical constraints have become the norm. The conventional problem-solving process, which consists of people working directly with data, albeit in more manageable volume, is no longer enough. Regardless of the industry sector, business leaders today who are abreast of evolving technologies, and who can conceive and execute business strategies with them are sorely needed. Leaders who entrust everything to the engineers are becoming less essential to companies looking toward the future.

The objective of this course is to use applied programming to learn Technovate problem solving, which is based on computers and humans working together. While computers handle the large volumes of data and repetitive processing, humans design and manage the logic and problem solving process.

This course is aimed at students who have interest in Information and Communications Technology (ICT) based business innovations but have no prior programming experience and have not studied computer science. The course will be conducted on the basis that students have no specialized ICT knowledge. To enhance the learning effect, students should have completed or possess the equivalent knowledge of:

- Essentials of Marketing and Strategy
- Critical Thinking

Points to Consider (1)
In this course, students will perform actions such as retrieving IDs, installing services, and downloading applications to their PCs to experience actual operations and deepen their understanding through programming.
Students taking this course will be responsible for preparing and maintaining their own course web environment. (The GLOBIS Student Services office does not loan out equipment or provide support for service implementation.)

Points to Consider (2)
This course relies on issues from the students' own organizations and companies to enhance their practical skills. Exercises are considered completed once they have been directly submitted to the instructor, presented in class, or uploaded via the Virtual Campus. For this course, there are no new non-disclosure agreements and students are responsible for exercising due caution when proceeding with the assignments.
Students are required to maintain the strictest confidentiality regarding any information gained during class about any fellow students’ companies or organizations. Such information shall not be disclosed in any way outside of class (including to third parties not enrolled in the class and all forms of dissemination such as email and social media.)
