Course Objectives

Due to the rapid evolution of computers, we are living in an era when unimaginably large volumes of data are traveling through complex networks unbounded by geographical restrictions. Today, the conventional problem solving process that requires humans to directly manipulate and comprehend data to resolve issues can no longer be applied. Regardless of the type of industry, modern business leaders need to possess their own knowledge of the evolving technologies, and use them to conceive and execute business strategies. They can no longer have the luxury to say, "I don't understand technology, so I'll trust everything to the engineers".

The objective of this course is to learn the "Technovate era problem-solving" method through actual programming exercises. This method is based on the division of roles whereby the computer handles the repetitive processing of large volumes of data, while humans manage the logical design, and resolution of business problems.

This course is aimed at students with no programming experience, or who have not studied computer science (in particular, algorithms and data structures), and who are interested in ICT-based business innovation. The course will be conducted on the basis that students have no prior, specialized knowledge. To enhance the learning effect however, students should have completed the following courses and/or possess the equivalent knowledge.

— Essentials of Marketing and Strategy
— Critical Thinking

In this course, students will participate in hands-on exercises including programming using web services and software applications on their own PCs and mobile devices (smartphones, tablets, etc.).
