Hear our full-time MBA student Marjorie Gene Gadiano's insights on her experience in Japan, at GLOBIS University

What is your professional background?

I have been working as an HR professional in the Philippines for 8 years. I started out as a generalist and afterward, decided to specialize in recruitment & training. I worked as an HR Manager for utility companies (water & gas) and before coming to Japan, I was a Learning & Development Manager in the largest media company in the Philippines.

What made you decide to do an MBA? Why the GLOBIS MBA?

As I gained more experience at work and as my scope of responsibilities expanded, the need to communicate and collaborate with people, especially with business leaders, also became more apparent.

I realized that to become an effective HR business partner and leader, I need to have a good grasp of the needs of my customers - both the management and the employees - and I thought that doing an MBA will be a huge help.

Among all the MBA schools that I researched, the GLOBIS MBA stood out because of its curriculum. It's designed not only to acquire the necessary business know-how in today’s ever-changing world but also to find and develop our personal mission.

What are your plans after the MBA; do you intend to stay in the same industry or do a career pivot?

I plan to continue my career journey in HR. I am hoping to take on a more strategic role, working side by side with business leaders and implementing talent management initiatives to support the overall business strategy.

Why Japan? What's your favorite thing about living in Japan?

I have always admired Japan’s customer service. Just about any store you go to in Japan, may it be a high-end restaurant or the usual fast food joints and konbini (convenience store), you will be greeted by the same efficient, pleasant, and courteous service.

Although I do not know how to speak the Japanese language, I do not feel intimidated trying new things and meeting new people because of the value of respect & humility that is embedded in their culture.

What advice would you give to potential prospects who are interested in taking the GLOBIS MBA/Pre-MBA?

Go for it! There is no better time than now. Some of my friends tell me that I am crazy for taking my MBA during these unprecedented times. I had some doubts myself before but now as I look back, the decision to start my MBA journey in GLOBIS is one of the best decisions I have made.

Amidst the uncertainties caused by the pandemic, GLOBIS has been very flexible in terms of our learning arrangements while ensuring that the quality of our experience is maintained. Moreover, once you take the GLOBIS MBA/Pre-MBA you will be part of a community that is supportive and encouraging. We cannot wait to welcome you all!
