Why did you choose GLOBIS?

Steven talking

I chose GLOBIS because I was inspired by President Hori's mission to create innovative leaders that can help to inspire positive change in societies. I believe in that mission and I want to be part of that movement of change.

Did you consider any other business schools?

I did consider two other leading business schools in Asia. However, both schools did not seem to be able to provide me with an outlook for visionary leadership that is aimed at innovating and changing societies.

In addition, I was looking for a school that focused on building communities and establishing life-long relationships. GLOBIS had all of the qualities that I was looking for and when the opportunity came, I immediately grabbed the chance to make history with GLOBIS by being part of the first batch of full-time MBA graduates.

Why did you come to Japan, rather than doing an MBA in your home country?

I came to Japan as my home country was not able to offer me a challenging masters program that can stretch me to my maximum potential and offer me an opportunity to interact with the best minds in the region.

What was the biggest hurdle for you in joining GLOBIS?

The single biggest hurdle for me is to leave my family, friends, and loved ones in Singapore again to further my knowledge and skills. Previously, I had left Singapore to attend a one year internship program in San Francisco in 2008. As such, I understand how difficult it is to leave everyone and everything behind in Singapore and start all over again in a foreign place.

I overcame the obstacle by getting support from my family and friends to pursue my dreams, and setting myself a personal goal to learn as much as possible so that I can go back to my community to effect positive changes.

How are you finding life in Japan?

I am adapting well to my life in Japan as Singapore is very similar to Tokyo. It also helps that I have a supportive community in GLOBIS to help me along the way.

What are your impressions of the Full-time MBA Program so far?

The Full-time MBA program has been great so far as I am taught by some of the best practitioners in the industry, while being surrounded by school mates that challenge my thinking every day. I feel that I am on an accelerated learning path that will hopefully give me the necessary skills to inspire change around me.

Steven talkWhat are your goals after graduation

After I graduate, I hope to return to the entertainment industry in Tokyo, USA, or Singapore. I hope that I can be directly involved in developing and releasing a feature film production within the next 5 to 10 years.

What advice would you give someone who is considering coming from overseas to study at GLOBIS?

Think carefully about what you want to do in your life and make that big leap forward. Life is about turning risks into opportunities and doing what you want to do. If you think GLOBIS is the answer to your learning path, take it. I guarantee that you will not regret it.
