Why did you decide to do an MBA at GLOBIS?
I was first attracted to the MBA Program at GLOBIS because it is conducted in Japan, which has always been the forefront in contemporary fashion innovation in the world. Having done my undergraduate study in Australia, an Asian perspective would provide me a broader outlook in the fashion industry where trends and customer behaviors are becoming assimilated all over the world and heavily impacted by globalization. The focus on both Asian and Western case studies at GLOBIS would enable me to gain cross-cultural management skills which are necessary in managing global business.
How is your typical day at GLOBIS?
A typical day would start with catching the train to the school – the best thing about living in Tokyo is that it is blessed with one of the world's most efficient public transportation systems! A class usually lasts for three hours with a short break in between, and some days one would have two classes in a day. After class, some of us would stay on to have group study sessions, or work on cases for the next day. GLOBIS also organizes some networking events and seminars which we can participate in after school hours.
How has GLOBIS changed the way you think?
With students from all over the world and with valuable experience from different industries, I have grown to be more open-minded and am able to see things from different perspectives. We are also encouraged to think outside the box and challenge the status quo; this allows me to reflect on my personal values and self-development.
How are you finding life in Japan?
Life has been hectic but rewarding. Tokyo is an exciting city, there are always so many things happening. When I don’t have to attend classes, I make time to enjoy what the city can offer, either a visit to some art exhibitions, a stroll in the beautiful parks, stuffing myself with the amazing array of Japanese food or indulging in some retail therapy! Coming from a tropical country, the change in seasons is something new and captivating to me, but I find myself having a hard time adjusting to the cold weather in winter.
What are your career plans? How is GLOBIS helping with them?
The entrepreneurial history of GLOBIS is relevant to the direction that I want to head to in my career. We are provided career support that aligns our career goals with our lifelong mission.
