What's your work professional background?
Before I joined GLOBIS, I worked in the educational industry for 16 years. During this time, I assumed many different roles, from an educator and school manager to an IT specialist and marketing strategist. With my knowledge and skills, I was able to help my school streamline its business processes to exceed the customer's needs, to increase our market share and profitability, and to create a better learning environment for our students.
What do you like best about studying at GLOBIS?
I enjoyed all of my classes. But what I loved the most were the practical learning approaches that helped develop my creativity.
My most memorable experience was when I posed a question to one of my finance professors. He provided a whole new outlook on how to prepare financial information to convince my company’s president to implement a new IT system. Through the professor’s advice, I was able to successfully convince our president, implement my project, and even negotiate a higher salary for myself. This is a perfect example of practical advice that you rarely receive from other types of formal education.
Since starting your MBA program, have you had an opportunity to apply what you learned at work?
In our company, we initially had a very analog or manual way of delivering presentations. One day, I was asked by our president to share with other school managers the learning gained from a successful promotional activity. As a fortunate coincidence, the presentation neatly coincided with the last few weeks of my presentation class. I set out on a mission to deliver this presentation with the knowledge I gained from class.
My presentation was such a success that I received a promotion. But most of all, I gained the confidence and skills to deliver excellent presentations in any situation.
What can you tell me about the other students in the program?
GLOBIS’ vision is “to create and innovate society by fostering management ecosystems of people, capital and knowledge.” I feel that GLOBIS attracts people who have the same spirit and mind-set. I was surrounded by students who were both passionate and determined to meet their objectives. The students are a community without bias or prejudice who, despite each person’s individual goals, freely exchange information, work with each other, and team up to solve problems. At GLOBIS, you will find a family away from home.
What advice would you give to potential prospects who are interested in taking the GLOBIS MBA/Pre-MBA?
GLOBIS is not only a graduate school but, as the faculty like to say, it is also a risk-free environment. It is a place where you are free to experiment, ask questions, and test various strategies or concepts. In the best way, you are free, even encouraged, to fail and make mistakes. So, the most valuable advice I can give you is to think big and be creative as possible.
