Why did you come to GLOBIS?
I worked as a field service engineer in the semiconductor industry in Japan from 2005 to 2014. The company I worked for is a Japanese subsidiary of LAM research, located in Fremont, California. My learning curve was quite steep and, within a few years, I began to participate in domestic and global technical support, sharing my experience with engineers from around the world.
In 2014, I made a career move to the medical industry. The company I joined manufactures medical devices used by dental professionals. The company is a Japanese subsidiary of Dentsply Sirona, located in York, Pennsylvania. I first worked in Quality Assurance, monitoring the aftermarket quality of medical devices with reporting function to headquarters. The next mission bestowed upon me was to become part of the team that runs day-to-day business in the medical device repair center. My responsibilities include giving training and technical support to field service engineers, writing technical articles, and managing general affairs related medical devices repair.
What made you decide to take a pre-MBA course? Why GLOBIS?
My primarily motivation to start with the pre-MBA was to build a credit buffer in order to have free time for some water sports and sunbathing in the summer.
I was deeply impressed by Mr. Hori’s enormous achievements both as faculty president and CEO of a venture capital firm. His entrepreneurial spirit and dedication to ongoing learning pervades the faculty and inspired me to choose GLOBIS.
Since starting the Pre-MBA program, have you had an opportunity to apply what you learned at work?
Not quite yet, at least not the MBA taught frameworks and marketing concepts. Having said that, the experience has entirely changed my perspective. Better yet, through the learning experience that included presentations using a white board, speaking in front of crowds has become a rather enjoyable routine. I am glad I am not getting stage-fright anymore!
What has your class experience been like so far?
So far, my experience at GLOBIS is very positive. I have the privilege to study with classmates completing company-sponsored course programs. I also have some highly motivated and self-driven people among my classmates. Needless to say, I find this group very inspiring.
What advice would you give to potential prospects who are interested in taking the GLOBIS Pre-MBA?
Congratulations! You have just made a public announcement stating you are willing to step out of your comfort zone. Identify your inhibitions and challenge them head on. GLOBIS is not only about getting your MBA; it’s also about the learning process, so enjoy every bit of it!
