What made you choose the GLOBIS MBA?

“Prior to joining GLOBIS, I was working at the Vietnam office for one of the biggest brands in Japan–a company that’s over 100 years old. I was deeply impressed by its management philosophy. It made me want to experience working in Japan. I wanted to learn more about Japanese business management and human resources development. But in order to do so, I needed to strengthen my abilities.

The GLOBIS MBA stood out because of its practical and innovative curriculum. I appreciated that the program is one year and intensive, and that classes are held in Tokyo, which was suitable for my job-hunting plans after graduation. In fact, thanks to GLOBIS’s network, I was able to land an internship which turned into a full-time job offer in Tokyo.”

How did you make use of the applied and specialized courses?

“I took the MBA as a career upgrade for new challenges in Japan, so courses from the Technovate and Japan/Asia/Global disciplines were most suitable to me. GLOBIS offers Technovate courses that focus on how to use emerging technologies for modern problem-solving.

To be honest, I did struggle a bit at first because the language of computer science was all new to me. However, thanks to my classmates, many of whom happen to be engineers, we had some very helpful and fun study sessions. I learned a lot from them.”

Which were your favorite courses?

“Business Analytics would definitely make the top of my list. I am not a numbers person myself, but I found the process of data interpretation fascinating. It was almost like a detective game!

For the report assignment, we had a case study on the soap industry. I remember working on the same set of data with my classmates for hours, but some of us ended up with totally different conclusions. It was a great learning experience. We still laugh about how far off our answers were from the sample analysis.”

How did GLOBIS help you achieve professional and personal changes?

“In many case studies, we talked about finding customer pain points and how successful companies stay ahead of the competition by gaining an advantage through customer insight.

For my current job as a consultant on overseas business expansion, market research, and data analysis are part of my daily tasks. It is important that I am thorough, but succinct and simple in communication, especially when English is a second language to all my managers and peers. That is where courses like Design Thinking come in. Effective storytelling has an enormous impact on pitching your ideas to management, and I will continue to apply what GLOBIS has taught me to contribute to my work and create value. “
