GLOBIS Japan MBA Experience (JMEx) Returns with Its Largest Cohort Yet

GLOBIS Welcomes New Full-time and Part-time & Online MBA Students to an Immersive Japan MBA Experience

GLOBIS MBA recently concluded the Japan MBA Experience (JMEx). This year, the program saw the participation of 38 students from both the Full-time and Part-time & Online MBA programs and the Japanese MBA program, marking its largest cohort to date. The program spanned three days, running from September 6 to 8 and included a series of lectures, guest speaker sessions, and cultural visits.

 

Course Overview

The Japan MBA Experience is an immersive three-day course crafted to introduce the unique culture, management practices, and innovation in Japan to GLOBIS MBA students. While primarily targeted at newly enrolled international students, even Japanese and international students who are already residents in Japan have found this course to be beneficial.

 

Course Schedule

The three-day JMEx comprised GLOBIS faculty lectures, guest speaker sessions, cultural excursions, and company visits, was structured as follows:

Day 1
  • Lecture: “Japan: Land of the Setting Sun?” by Kenya Yoshino
  • Lecture: “Introduction to Japanese Management: GODIVA Japan” by Jake Pratley
  • Welcome gathering and networking session
Day 2
  • Lecture: “Innovation and AI in Japan” by David Malkin
  • Guest speaker session: “Innovation in Japanese Companies” by Shinsaku Motomatsu
  • Field visit: Japanese traditional culture tour at Meiji Shrine
Day 3
  • Lecture: “KIBOW Impact Investing Fund: Creating Hope with Social Entrepreneurship” by Suzuka Kobayakawa
  • Guest speaker session: “Japanese Management” with Emi Otsuka and Dan Kanazawa from Suntory Holdings Ltd.
    (Originally planned as an on-site visit, but moved online due to weather, thanks to Suntory’s support.)
Final Thoughts

With a significant turnout of students this year, the JMEx was a big success. It provided an excellent opportunity for students to gain a deeper understanding of Japan, as well as the teaching methodology at GLOBIS, while fostering connections within the GLOBIS community. The GLOBIS team is looking forward to hosting the JMEx once again next year!
