What's your work professional background?

Since I joined one of the top engineering consulting companies in Japan ten years ago, I have been engaged in the consulting business, particularly for government authorities in the environmental field.  Three years ago, I gained the opportunity to be transferred to a strategic subsidiary, with the mission to develop a new business.

Currently, my main responsibility is to build operations and bring new capabilities to my organization in terms of execution of diversification strategy. Since it is a brand-new business for us and requires a completely different skill-set compared to the existing business, I have faced many challenges. But this experience has been exciting and has promoted personal growth.

What made you decide to do an MBA? Why the GLOBIS MBA?

I am highly motivated to bring positive change to global social issues through leveraging the power of business. The newly launched service is consistent with my vision and contributes to the company’s diversification strategy. However, I have started to think that I haven’t yet broadly impacted society because of my lack of business knowledge and skills.

Pre MBA classes, which I took before enrollment, were the trigger. Considering the gap between my skills and those required in the global competitive environment, the following features brought me to GLOBIS MBA:

  • Practical lecture content focusing on real business cases
  • An active environment that allows us to study/discuss with diverse classmates

What can you tell me about the other students in the program?

As expected, there is a diversity in both nationality and experience, expertise, and industry. I am often inspired by other students, and it enables me to maintain my motivation at a high level. I try to contribute to other students’ learning because I believe that such a mind-set leads to my own growth.

Since starting your MBA program, have you had an opportunity to apply what you learned at work?

In my case, many subjects are applicable to the practical operations of business development, especially Finance. In addition, a deepening understanding of a service’s future potential from a corporate strategy perspective will help you commit and make appropriate judgements in practice.

What are your plans after the MBA? Do you intend to stay in the same industry or do a career pivot?

I haven’t thought about changing jobs so far, but I'd like to engage in fields that can leverage what I have learned in GLOBIS MBA to achieve my mission.
